UTI - so worried for Percy
My gorgeous Syrian hamster Percy started producing a red discharge last Monday. The vet suspects a urinary tract infection. She was put on Baytril and after a few days there was no blood evident anymore. But I checked her bottom this morning and the blood is back.
I'm so upset now for my poor girl and not feeling optimistic.
Does anyone have experience of this? She is 20 months old.

Re: UTI - so worried for Percy
So sorry to hear that Percy isn't well, UTI's can be quite stubborn & take time to clear up especially in older hams so she'll probably need to be on the antibiotics for longer, if you've finished the current course then I would take her back to the vet.
It is worrying but they can recover from this if it is just a UTI.
If she does end up being on antibiotics for a while longer it would be a good idea to give her some probiotics too, you can get them in P@H or other pet shops.

Re: UTI - so worried for Percy
I am so sorry that Percy isn't well and fighting a UTI. I will be praying and keeping my fingers crossed that he recovers completely and quickly from this.

Poor thing, she must have suffered... I mean I had uraine infection and it hurt me to death. leave alone for your little creature... Please do get her to the vet asap. There's nothing else can be done by your side.
Is she having good appetite at least? Is she playing and sleeping well?

Re: UTI - so worried for Percy
If she is producing a red discharge is is much more likely to be a womb infection than a Urine infection. A urine infection usually shows as blood stained urine in the wet corner and hunching as well as general unwell appearance.
If there is discharge and staining and sometimes an unpleasant odour it may be a womb infection or something going on in the reproductive tract. Is she drinking more? Does she seem bloated or swollen at all? Maybe best to have her re- examined and further checks like a scan to see if anything is going on inside. Hope she can be helped x

Vet has advised to increase the dose of Baytril.
