Default My hamster has been pooping and blood comes out.

Hi there, I have had my male Syrian hamster for 5 days now and I have been leaving him and only watching him every now and then in order for him to settle in his new home.

He has been fine and even comes up to where I watch him from.

Today, I have woken up to find a corner of the cage with poo on it not only that but blood too. I'm so so worried. I have a picture...

Thanks in advance.

Info about him...

He is a male Syrian Hamster who is around 7 or 8 weeks old. I have had him for 5 days.

I would advise that you take him to the vet immediately. Hope your little guy is ok.

Sorry to hear this, you must be terribly worried. I'd take him to an emergency vet today. If you can't today I'd make a emergency appointment tomorrow with an exotic vet. (not a small animal vet if possible)? Will say a prayer for the little guy.

I'd call the store you bought him from cause they should take him to their vets actually.

As the others have said you do need to get your ham to the vet as soon as you possibly can, good luck with him, really hope he will be ok.

Question Re: My hamster has been pooping and blood comes out.

Thanks so much for all your help.

For some reason he isn't doing it anymore normal wee and normal pellet poop could it be his food or the fact he chewed a bit of a blanket the day before.

Once again thanks for all the help

Could be if he had something red, if he's been chewing blanket I would keep a close eye on him for a while to be sure he's ok.

He's not going to pass something that looks like blood because he might have chewed on red fabric, that was a lot of blood. Tumors also cause sporadic bleeding but the x-rays tests can be expensive and the only choice you have it to have surgery to remove the tumor if the vet feels it can be safely removed.

Edit: I looked at the photo again and it looks like it was from his urine. He could have a urinary track infection or worse. You may really regret not keeping on top of this. Turn him over and check his genitals a couple times a day if your not going to the vet cause he can pee and the urine can cake with blood & dry making it impossible to pass anymore urine. Then he will suffer and will have to the PTS. Sorry to be so morbid but it is true.

Poor lad, though I'm glad he's feeling a bit better today. Do let us know how he gets on at the vets.

I'd still take your ham to the vet, just in case. You're right that it could just be something he ate, but then again it may not. That's just what I would do, but it's your choice. Hope he is ok.

I agree with AP, a vet visit would still be a good idea. Though it may have been a one time thing, it could be a sign of internal troubles. Good luck at the vets XX
