Default Help urgently needed

On Facebook I have a hamster advice page and a young girl has messaged me regarding her hamster he was adopted however recently his eye is looking worrying and her dad won't pay for a vet I need some help on what I should suggest to her as it has gone down but I don't know whether it will heal itself, looks like it has a cut oh his eye, coat doesn't look ruffled at all sorry it's so close it was the only way it would allow me to upload it

As always I'd strongly suggest vets, they're always going to be far more reliable than people on the internet!

With that said, it could well be a scratch thats healing, maybe get her to check the cage for anything that could have caused it? Sharp objects or general irritation - irritation could be caused by allergies (my ham turned out to be allergic to carefresh and animals, like humans, can develop allergies seemingly out of nowhere!) if this seems to be the case, switch the bedding out to simple toilet roll and go from there, the odour control will be awful but its better than having a sick hammy!

Final thing I can think of personally is mites, in which case vet attention will be needed since I wouldn't recommend giving them mite medication without a professional opinion

But again, I'm just a person who's owned some small furries; the opinion of someone who's trained will always be better!

It does look like a cut or scratch, hard to tell from the photo but it does also look as though it could be a bit inflamed which may mean it's infected, if it did get infected a trip to the vet would be essential if not then it may just heal up without treatment, if necessary it could be bathed with saline solution to keep it clean other than that nothing can be done without a vet, hopefully it will heal on it's own.
Get her to check her cage very carefully to see if there's anything that her ham could have caught itself on.

This breaks my heart when I read about people not wanting to pay a vet, not the girl's fault but, I've said this many times, don't get a pet if you're not prepared to pay for vet treatment if needed.
I so hope it's just a scratch and heals.
