Re: Robo foot injury
Okay thank you so much for the advice I will definitely try the terracotta saucer thing, maybe one under the water bottle and one for the food. I'm gonna try him with a bigger better sand pit too. His new cage arrived (the maxi duna multy) so there is room for a bigger sand pit. Even if I still have to trim his claws, these things might mean I don't have to do it as often

Re: Robo foot injury
That sounds good! They are quite heavy so I tend to put them on a platform or level rather than on the substrate as they could tunnel under them and get squashed - or you can support it with something underneath if you have it on the substrate (a little house under it or something). Or have your stones you already have under the water bottle. If they pile up from the base and can't be tunneled under.

Re: Robo foot injury
Well I have been keeping an eye on Tilly, he is in his new cage and seemed to be a lot happier. However, tonight I have noticed that all four of his paws seem a little red and sore and I'm worried again. I don't know whether I am just being paranoid if there is definitely something wrong. I am going to check again tomorrow (I don't really want to bother him again tonight) and take a picture if I can. And may take him to see the vet on Monday as soon as I can. He is still using his wheel and eating but I am concerned.
I am using carefresh so perhaps it is a possibility he may be allergic? I have been using it since April time though. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the shredded toilet paper I put in there, however I only used a really small amount. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I really want to help him

Re: Robo foot injury
I had a look this morning and I think I was being a little paranoid. However, Tilly's back foot is once again swollen and red. It's not a bright red, more like a sore red, noticeable when compared to his other feet. I've taken his wheel out and I'm going to take him to the vets asap (hopefully tomorrow).
The vet I took him to see before wasn't the usual one who works at the practice so I am hoping my regular vet can help him

Re: Robo foot injury
You know I have heard some hammies can be allergic to Carefresh. It is wood pulp - but it goes through a lot more chemical processes to become wood pulp, than paper does to become paper. Is it new? If so it could be a culprit. If he's always had Carefresh it seems unlikely unless it's damp or mouldy or something which also seems unlikely.

Re: Robo foot injury
He has had always had the carefresh And it is just the one foot so I guess if it was an allergy then all his feet would be adversely affected with maybe some hair loss? But he hasn't experienced this so I ruled allergy out for now
