Re: Allergic to Carefresh?
Change of bedding is having good effects, baldness is already growing back! It's sort of a general white peach fuzz around the whole bottom area/towards one leg
Could just be general butt balding from being more active in a bigger cage/having a wheel and since she's white her pink skin shows through more etc etc causing a first time hamster mum to freak out a little
Not sure if i should still go and see the vet? Vet fees aren't an issue, I knew they'd come along at some point when I adopted her - it's more that she despises her travel cage and I don't want to stress the poor thing out unnecessarily

Re: Allergic to Carefresh?
I wouldn't bother unless you were seeing zero change Since the change has already proven to improve the situation(therefore showing it was most likely the previous use of Carefresh as the cause of the problem to begin with),a vet visit at this point would just not be worth the stress to your hamster.

Re: Allergic to Carefresh?
Yes I would hold off. It can be stressful for them having vet visits. Even a substrate change is a "change" but sounds like it has gone down well. If the fur is growing back now it does suggest it may have been an allergy. Keep an eye on whether she is still scratching a lot. If not, then I doubt it's mites. I believe they scratch themselves sore with mites. They do do a lot of normal scratching as part of grooming, often behind the ears, which used to worry me at one point, but it's quite normal.
Hair loss isn't normal really. Just keep an eye on it. I would definitely not use the disinfectant again though. Cypher also has some useful tips for helping hair growth condition

Re: Allergic to Carefresh?
The thrilling conclusion to this tale.. Hold on to your hats...
Turns out she's a boy! Any marks and 'lumps' that would have been strange on a girl are now totally explained
@ any future hamster owners who might stumble across this thread, yes it's possible for your hamster to be allergic to/not like carefresh bedding, save yourself the money!

Re: Allergic to Carefresh?
Lol! So the bald bits were? His man bits extended? When they get warm or relaxed they can look quite large and sort of pop out. Do you have a photo of him by the way? And the vet didn't spot that?!!!!
