Default Uterus tumor

Hello, my little ones were wet sex organs, and then started stain with blood. The veterinarian has found the uterus tumor...

Do you have hamsters with this tumor? How are their doing? What were their symptoms? How long have their lived with it? Should I change something in her cage?

In short, everything is interested.

Sometimes a tumour can be removed successfully if it is fully confined to the womb and has not spread elsewhere. This is done by spaying the hamster however that op is quite risky in itself especially if the hamster is already a bit run down. Bleeding tumours can also result in infection setting in. Antibiotics can give some remission. If you decide to to operate then keeping her comfortable and being very aware that you may have to give rest when she is no longer able to live a happy hamster life is probably the best way forward. It is hard to say how long she may live. It depends on when and how the tumour affects her system enough to cause distress. I would say on average they would like maybe 3-4 weeks once the bleeding starts.

We were at the vet and he said that there was no treatment. It is only possible to allow medication, but it will weaken the immunity and can worsen everything... So the veterinarian advised not to do anything... I think, because the hams are already 28 months old, so quite old...

I think your vet is right then if they feel the tumour is not operable. I hope you have some quality time left with your little one. She really is a good age now and sounds like she has had a great life with you and been much loved. As long as you know when the time has come to give her peace just spoil her for now with lots of love and care x

Thank you

3 weeks after the diagnosis, the hamster feels good - eats, runs around the room, only no longer uses the wheel...
