Default hamster stroke

my one-and-a-half year old syrian had a stroke the other day. he's a fighter, and was walking around, eating, and drinking without any issues despite one-sided weakness. but in the past day he has not been able to walk anymore. all he can do is roll around on the ground and I can hand him food and water. I'm very afraid that he is suffering and I have no idea what to do at this point. is there any chance of recovery for him? my old syrian passed away days after having a stroke so I'm worried that he will have the same fate. thank you!

I'm so sorry to hear this has happened, it must be very distressing to see your ham like this.
If a ham is seen by the vet & given the appropriate medication straight away they can sometimes recover & continue to live comfortably for some time but as your ham's condition has already worsened & he can no longer walk or do things for himself I don't really think he has much chance of making a recovery, you need to take him to the vet & get their opinion, it is possible they may be able to help him but if he's in pain & has no quality of life now the kindest thing may be to help him on his way, it's a very hard choice to have to make I know but it may be for the best.

It sound to me like your hamster has had another stroke which would explain why he's not able to get up when in the past, he's been able to manage quite well. I vaguely remember being told once that they can actually recover quite well from strokes sometimes but they can then be at risk of subsequent strokes.

It's best to take him to a vet to get their opinion but when he's been affected to the degree that he has, there might not be much chance of a full recovery I'm afraid.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little boy, it does sound like he's worsened and getting him to the vet as soon as is your only option.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed xx

thank you all for the replies! my boy Atticus was doing very poorly for the past few days, so i just did my best to make him comfy and help him on his way, but he's actually started to recover, much to my surprise! He's able to walk a little here and there and enjoys eating from his food bowl again! Let's hope he continues improving!
