Lethargic hamster!
My Syrian hamster is suddenly super lethargic. I usually take him out of his cage at 10:30 p.m. to free range, and the last couple of nights he didn't want to come out. Tonight he's barely moving. I had to hand feed him. And he just keeps going to different parts of his cage and sleeping. He's in his wheel now, and he'll take a few steps and then flop down. His eyes are open, but he's just lying flat. He's only 5 months old, so it can't be old age.

Re: Lethargic hamster!
I don't know where you are but one thing to consider is temperature, is it hot or cold where you are?
If the temperature is around about normal range & it isn't that then I would take your ham to the vet for a check as it does sound as though he's quite unwell.

Re: Lethargic hamster!
I was also wondering about temperature. It's getting cool at night in our part of the world and our hammy doesn't want to come out and is building a bigger nest. It sounds more like heat or being unwell though if he is flopping. Has anything changed recently? eg has he been moved, had a cage clean, change of diet? Or is it very warm?

Re: Lethargic hamster!
It might've been the temperature because it is starting to get colder. Luckily, he has since returned to normal. I still don't know what was wrong with him, but I'm glad he's ok now!

Re: Lethargic hamster!
Hopefully, he will continue to behave in his typical manner. I would just try to keep the temperature as stable and within healthy range. I would also keep a close eye on him to monitor any more changes in behavior. If he begins to act lethargic or floppy, or refuses to eat or drink enough, I would take him to the vet. Good luck!
