Re: Wettail - HELP! - how long before he gets better
AmityvilleHams, Thanks for being my hamster fairy godmother when I needed one most!
Sounds good, I hadn't read that. For the long-term, I'll ditch the Enviro, do a slow transition to Carefresh and then try to find some freeze-dried chicken as an add-on. Flax seed I have.
But for now, it's pumpkin puree for the tummy! And his last dose of Baytril is tonight so I'm sure ending the antibiotics will help him to normalize.

Higgins Sunburst and Carefresh both do not contain menadione, unless the ingredients have somehow changed. You might also find that the lab blocks are simply too large for hamsters, whereas Carefresh pellet sizes are more hamster friendly. This could certainly explain not wanting the lab blocks
I wouldn't remove any pieces of food from the mix either,as that would create an imbalance which can cause serious health problems.
I'd avoid yogurt too. It's not easily digestible for hamsters to begin with,so to add it especially when the stomach is already in a less than ideal state is not the best idea.

Re: Wettail - HELP! - how long before he gets better
You're welcome
I mostly use Pure Bites personally,as it is the easiest brand to find.Petco,Petsmart, etc carry it,in fact Petco often do sales at least on the cat sized bags making it even better! Some other brands may be available in local specialty dog and cat stores, but the main idea is something not irradiated from a reputable company that is pure meat.Pure Bites also do shrimp by the way which could be used as a rotational protein source.
Getting off antibiotics should help.Hopefully things get better soon for the little guy, even if just a tiny bit!
