Re: Getting a urine sample
Thank you dreamtree
I've still not had any luck. I'm starting to think I should sit and watch him until I see him having a pee and just pick him up and catch some of it lol.

Re: Getting a urine sample
BP, did you have any luck collecting a urine sample from Pasha? How did the vet appointment go? I've been praying that sweet Pasha is doing well and everything went smoothly. Hugs to you and cuddles to your entire hamily.

Re: Getting a urine sample
So sorry for being so slow to update you on Pasha, I've had a crazy week this week (and not crazy in a good way either lol)
As for Pasha, I spent nearly the whole day on Monday sitting at his cage waiting for him to pee so I could try picking him up and catch a bit but it didn't work. When we got to the vet he had another idea to try so thankfully he didn't need to get the gas. He wanted us to try a silicone based litter that they use for cats when they need a sample. Apparently the pee forms a bubble on top of the litter and then you can use a pipette to get it from the toilet to the bottle. I was worried Pasha would try to eat it so I didn't want to just put it straight in his toilet and leave it unsupervised, so we filled a spare toilet with the silicone stuff. I sat waiting by his cage on Tuesday morning for 4 hours before he finally got up and he wouldn't go near it! The next night he was up so I swapped the toilets over. He went in it this time but I don't know if he was trying to eat it or just sniff it as it was hard to tell. He wouldn't pee though, just started trying to chew his toilet in annoyance at the alien stuff in it.
I'm thinking though if he was diabetic he would surely have pee'd in this 4 hours I sat the other morning? His pee is back to it's normal smell as well so I'm not sure what to do. Maybe he had a uti and it cleared up on it's own? I don't really want him getting the gas though as I know it's risky and I'm not sure that there is anything wrong anymore so I'm not sure if it's worth putting him through that.

Re: Getting a urine sample
It does seem unlikely that Pasha's diabetic if he hasn't peed in that time, if the smell's gone & he's peeing normally again it is possible he had a minor UTI that's cleared up.
I think if it were me I'd wait & see now, if things stay normal it's probably not worth putting him through the gas procedure.

Re: Getting a urine sample
No need to apologize, BP; we were just asking because we care but didn't want you to feel bad about not responding sooner. I'm so sorry that you had such a bad week. I know that it must have been extremely stressful for you trying to collect Pasha's pee on top of worrying about his possible diabetes, too. Poor Pasha being afraid to pee in the alien toilet and poor you for having to wait for pee that never seemed to come. I'm sure if you didn't need for him to pee so desperately he would have peed right away. I'm glad that his pee is normal smelling again, though. Hopefully, everything will be fine with him; I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. If he seems fine and his pee isn't smelling weird anymore, I would probably be inclined to not putting him through the gas. I would just keep on monitoring him though. Good luck. I hope this weekend proves to be better than this week. Hugs to you and cuddles to Pasha (and the rest of your hamily, of course).

Re: Getting a urine sample
So glad Pasha's back to his normal self.
Like Cypher said it does sound like he had a minor uti. I did smile at you having to wait ages for a sample. Like dreamtree mentioned, keep an eye and have regular sniffs lol!
Hope things are less crazy for you.

Re: Getting a urine sample
Thank you Cypher, dreamtree and Lizzy I appreciate the support.
He's a bit cross with us still and doesn't seem to trust us by running away if we come near him but apart from that he seems to be fine. My instinct was to leave things for now but keep an eye on him so I feel reassured to hear your opnions on it
Hopefully he'll get back to being my friendly Pasha soon lol.

Re: Getting a urine sample
Oh, I'm sorry that Pasha is running away. He really did go through a big ordeal so it will take a little time for him to feel completely at ease again I'm afraid. I think that you absolutely did the best thing possible to let him be to settle back down again. He loves you and knows that you did everything possible to make sure he is healthy, but he is probably just extra cautious that the pee collection is still going to take place again. That is natural; he is running away from the pee experience instead of from you so feel reassured that things will certainly get back to normal soon. Pasha is friendly and loving by nature. You have a wonderful bond and trust with each other, and he will show that side of him again once he is certain that the alien toilet isn't coming back for another visit. I would just keep on talking to him and give him plenty of opportunities to come out and play when he is ready. You are an excellent hammum, and your instincts are right on. Hugs to you, BP; cuddles to Pasha, too! xxx
