A spider won't be a problem If your hammy had found it, it might have been a tasy snack. Likewise if baby spiders hatch they will also be tasty snacks. Try not to worry, it's unlikely the spider chose to lay eggs in a hamster cage and it could have been a male spider

Not very lucky for the snack!

I'm very worried by spiders especially the House Spider and other Tegenaria species. So for the next month I'm keeping all the windows tightly shut because in S. England those big male spiders that run around will be coming in searching homes for mates.
I advise you to do the same, close the windows that is.

As everyone else has said, it is nothing to worry about. The spider is in more danger than your hamster!

As for laying eggs on your hamster, this wouldn't happen. Spiders lay eggs in "egg sacks" which are basically made of cobweb and are usually found up in the corners of rooms where the walls meet the ceiling. These egg sacks are fairly big (about 1 cm or 2 across) so you'd spot them right away.

There's just as much danger of a spider choosing to lay eggs in your hamster's cage as in the rest of your house. Probably less.

In the US we have very small jumping spiders which are relatively harmless and wouldn't be any major worry(could carry pesticides like any other wild insect or spider, but other than that not really a serious risk of injury and such). In fact, these particular spiders tend to be very docile and in some cases are even able to be handled straight from the wild if you're careful and don't drop them, but being able to identify the species first is important for safety reasons
