Unhappy Ringworm

I feel like a terrible owner
Today I took my 26 month old Syrian, Crumpet, to the vet after over a month of having a bit of hair loss. And just last week I noticed he had dandruff type stuff.
I thought the hair loss was just due to a change in substrate so I changed it back to carefresh.
The vet says he has ringworm which I didn't know hamsters could even get but I feel so awful that I let him suffer for so long and it might be my fault too.
After all I am guilty of petting my neighbours cat and not washing my hands before petting Crumpet so that might be why or something but if it isn't I might have also given ringworm to my neighbours cat. I feel awful

Also I had to buy some liquid thing I have to put in his mouth which is like £25 or something and it was easier to do than I expected but that's so much money

Don't feel bad, you're not a bad hamster owner. You did take him to the vet and that is something a bad owner probably wouldn't do. Your hamster is also old and if i were in your situation I would've thought the hair loss was caused by old age and I would react only when the dandruff apeard . I'm sure you did the best you could. Crumpet is lucky to have you.
