Default Peppermint oil

Im trying to keep spiders from coming into my house at this time of year and i heard if you use peppermint oil and dillute it then spray in corners and skirting they don't like the smell so it keeps them away. But i know hams are sensitive to smells. Would a ham be okay if i did this?

I wouldn't use it anywhere around the hamster. It could possibly work around doorways that lead outside and other outdoor areas, but it's not a good idea to use any sort of scented product(natural or not)in the same room as(or even in halls/rooms nearby!)as a hamster.

I wouldn't use it in a room where a ham is & I wouldn't bother anyway, spiders are rarely put off by even strong smells1

This is a complete myth. Spiders are not put off by what your house smells like, they'll wander in regardless.
I've kept Mexican Red Knees for years and they do not care about smell.

Is there any other way to keep spiders away? I found that the daddy long legs spiders kill and eat the house spiders that I hate so much, so I encourage them. Also the horrible fast running males only appear in the mating season so I keep all the windows closed in September, no matter how hot it is.

I take it you're a spider hater? I can't understand that myself. They're one of the most fascinating creatures in the world not to mention one of the most ancient. ! I always say animals, ALL animals have more right to this planet than humans do.
There is no way to keep spiders from your home, I'm sorry but there really isn't. Especially house spiders, hence the name. The things you see online to keep them away are all rubbish, even keeping your windows closed isn't going to keep them out, they come in other ways. Sorry but it's just a fact. The only thing you can do if you're that bothered by them is invest in a spider catcher, it's a long tube with a gentle vacuum that pulls them gently into a holding container that you can open outside to let them go. I don't condone killing them. At all.
Also, crane flies (daddy long legs) eat either nectar or nothing at all. They DO NOT eat spiders.
