Mold???
So today I was spot cleaning Tangy's cage. Under his bottle he keeps a small food hoard consisting of food crumbs, a few pieces of his food mix and a lot of poop. However he doesn't eat from that hoard as far as I know- he keeps a bigger one with whole pieces of food in a different spot.
About a week ago his bottle was leaking a bit and made the substrate soggy under the toilet paper roll stand. I removed the wet substrate daily but unfortunately I didn't know how far the water had seeped into the bedding.
Whenever I was spot cleaning I cleaned out the area around the bottle. To my horror a part of the food hoard had what looked to be some green fuzzy mold on it I'm assuming it grew whenever the hoard got soggy from the water bottle because it wasn't like that whenever I spot cleaned about 10 days ago. Tangerine made a new burrow whenever the bottle got leaky- I assume he didn't like sleeping with damp substrate on top of him. So he hasn't been sleeping next to the moldy food as far as I know but I'm still a bit concerned for his health. Would the moldy hoard have any ill effects on him? I know mold isn't good to breathe in over a long period of time. He has been acting normal and doesn't seem to be sick. I know I'm probably overreacting but it's a little concerning whenever you find green mold in your hamster's cage.

Re: Mold???
Any mould is worrying & can cause health problems but it doesn't sound as though it was a large area or there for long so it should be fine now it's been cleared away.
Can you put something under the bottle to catch the drips? When I used bottles I always put a little saucer of some kind underneath, either that or keep the bottle on a shelf so you can just wipe up any water that leaks or drips.

I have a small ceramic soy sauce dish under the bottle spout to catch drips, however the leaking occurred where the spot screws onto the bottle part. I've moved the saucer under the bottle stand in case it leaks again.
