Change in colour/ fur loss on scent glands
Hi all,
Ive noticed over the last week that Khalis scent glands have gone a white colour. Im not sure if its a change of colour, i think it may be a thinning of the fur. She is her normal crazy self, as usual, so no change there and she is eating ok. I haven changed her diet or routine or anything. Is it normal, should i be worried or just keep an eye on her?
Sorry for the picture quality, she wouldnt stay put (shocker)

It's not easy to see from the photo really, has she been doing a lot of scent marking have you noticed? It may be that she's been rubbing against something more then usual.
Other than that I have no idea sorry! Maybe someone else will know.

I havent noticed her marking more than usual in her cage recently, but she has been playing on the coffee table a few times this week and marks everything. But she usually does that during her "smelly time" anyway.
I'll have to see if i can get a clearer pic of her later. Bribes may be involved

Sorry Jennie, never having had a syrian I wouldn't really know if it was ok or not. I hope she is ok though and hopefully if you can get a clearer picture (I know that's asking a lot when it comes to Khali lol) maybe someone will be able to help.

Tried to bribe her with babycorn to sit still. She is wise to my tricks.
Maybe a slightly better pic and a link to a short vid where you can see the fur difference

It does look like a larger patch of thinner fur than you usually see, I honestly don't know enough about syrians to help though, bumping thread so someone else might see it

Re: Change in colour/ fur loss on scent glands
What age is she? They are in summer moult at the moment and our Azula looks much like this to be honest and she is 20 months. I am sure it is the female hormones with her and them dwindling somewhat. If she seems happy enough I wouldn't worry too much. Up her B vits by adding some wheatgerm to her porridge and also a little extra oily seeds might help.

I think she is 9 months, give or take a week or two. She is still her mischievous little self so nothing to worry about there.
Ive never given her porridge to be honest, as I have no idea how to prepare it in a hammy friendly way or how much to give etc. What oily seeds sould you reccommended?
Thanks for you help

Re: Change in colour/ fur loss on scent glands
You could try some flax seeds.
Making porridge for hams is much the same as humans except you don't need to use milk, just a tiny bit of normal oats & water & put it in the microwave, I usually do a few seconds, give it a stir & same again till it's done, such a tiny amount is really quick.
You could try offering her a pinch of wheatgerm just dry, some will take it like that.
