Hamster poop turning white
Hi I recently noticed that my hamster Waffles poop was turning a grayish white and it did not happen with my other dwarf but this happened after I started to add in burggess food and maxurri pelets to their diets and I introduced it slowly as well! Should I be concerned or take him to the vet or does he have a stomachache? And nothing else have changed with his living style

Re: Hamster poop turning white
I'm not sure what this could be to be honest so hopefully someone with more experience will be able to help.
My thought is it could be something to do with the food and that perhaps they are not getting enough of the right nutrients or too much of something.
I have dwarf hamsters and they are fed burgess and I've never seen funny coloured poops like you describe. I'm not familiar with the maxurri pellets. I wouldn't have thought you would need to feed them though as the burgess dwarf hamster mix is a complete mix which gives them everything they need from a dietary point of view.
Are they eating all the burgess or are they being selective with it?

Re: Hamster poop turning white
I'm not sure either tbh, I've also fed Burgess in the past & never had this happen, I don't have experience with Mazuri blocks so can't say about those although there have been quite a few people on the forum using them over the years & I don't think I've come across this before.
As BP said the Burgess is sufficient on it's own & you don't need the blocks with it, you may even be giving too much protein by combining them but I'm not sure if that could be a factor or not.
I would just feed the Burgess for a while & see if it changes, as long as your ham appears well & active it may not be something to worry about, just keep a close eye out & see how it goes.
Does your ham have any other foods or chews that could possible be the cause do you think?

Re: Hamster poop turning white
Could it perhaps be some sort of mold growing on it? I too cannot really think of a reason that it would be white. Do you have a photo you could share? It's likely that it's just something he ate as said above

Re: Hamster poop turning white
In humans, pale coloured poo is a sign of liver disease or gall bladder disease. How old is your hamster? As you've just changed diet it could be something to do with that but I've not heard of a change of diet doing that before. Does he seem ok in himself? It could be an idea to take him to the vet.

Re: Hamster poop turning white
You say turning white. Sorry if this sounds weird, but right after the hamster poops is it already white? Or does it turn white after a while?
I would recommend taking him to the vet just in case.
