Bleeding Growth on Leg?
I'm Mango and I am new to this Forum so bear with me .
My brother currently owns a hamster, and just a disclaimer; I don't know much about hamsters, and I am the one making this now because he is a good deal younger than me and he feels that I can communicate the problem better than he can, so here I am.
The hamster is a winter white mix adopted from a local shelter. Her name is Vanilla Bean but for short we call her Bean. She is now approaching her 3rd year of living so she is a bit old. She has a very large cage, about 1,200 square inches.
Today we took her out for some floor time, and while handling her my brother came up with a horrifying discovery. She had what looks like a pea sized growth on her leg, and it had dried blood on it. It resembled a ulcer. However, the injury did not seem to bother her as she was running around with no problem. I don't know how to upload pictures so unfortunately I can't show you the actual growth. We immediately scheduled a visit to the vet.
Please help! My brother and I love her dearly and we would not like her to be in pain.

Re: Bleeding Growth on Leg?
Hello and welcome to HC!
Sorry to hear about her leg It's very difficult for us to determine what this growth could be without photos. It could be anything from a ruptured abcess, to a small tumor that has begun to bleed. If you could upload photos, that would be extremely helpful. You did the right thing by scheduling a vet visit, your vet will take good care of your hamster there. All lumps and bumps on small rodents should be examined ASAP so it'll be good to get her in. To upload photos, it's easiest to create an account on a photo sharing website. I'm not at all tech savvy so you should wait and get some advice from other members on that aspect. However, it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Hope she feels better soon, best wishes

Good news that she seems to be carrying on as normal. Hope the vet can help.

Re: Bleeding Growth on Leg?
MagesticMango, hi and welcome to HC! I am so very sorry to hear of Bean's bleeding growth on the leg, but I am relieved that he seems to be running as normal. I also agree that visiting the vet as soon as possible will be best. They should be able to evaluate what is the cause of it and give you help in the matter. Unfortunately, as mentioned by Drago, it is impossible for us to tell you any specifics without a picture. I usually download my camera pics directly into my computer and save them on Pinterest. In order to have them displayed on my thread here at HC, I then right click on the image and copy the image address between my typed onto the thread I am posting on. I hope that this helps. If not, I hope that someone else who posts pictures differently than I do can assist you.
Please update us on how your hammy is doing whenever possible. I hope that your sweetheart Bean will be feeling better soon and all things goes well with the vet visit. You, your brother, and Bean are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you all and whisker kisses from Eros.
