Hi is National Geographic hamster and gerbel entree safe for dwarfs who are prone to diabetes to mix in with their food? I give my dwarfs higgins with Burgess dwarf hamster food but have been trying to find somthing to mix in with both.

National Geographic hamster food isn't really appropriate for any hamster The protein is way too low,the fiber is far too high, and it contains at least one ingredient with questionable at best safety.Burgess is much better of a choice

In the US the only diabetes prone hamster food choice is Burgess.Higgins is not a choice due to the high sugar content, but Burgess on its own is perfectly fine and is really the best possible choice.Stick to Burgess only, there's no need to mix foods and it can end very badly if done wrong

There wouldn't be anything suited to diabetes prone hamsters in terms of storebought mixes in the US You could add extras though as a small portion of the diet, for example high quality all natural dog biscuits once a week with diabetes friendly ingredients(no corn or wheat at the very least if they'll be shared with a dog though!),plain puffed rice or other grains with no additives, seeds and other things that aren't in Burgess, freeze dried(not cooked as cooking destroys a significant amount of the nutrients and is far less natural compared to freeze dried which is as close as possible to raw)hamster safe meats, and other healthy extras

There aren't any I know of which would be suitable to diabetes prone species, just like mixes. You honestly don't need pellets, they don't offer any enrichment value like if you were to add different seeds and such occasionally.Plus,if you fed a pellet it would alter the nutritional value of the entire diet and could cause some serious harm especially with vitamin and mineral balances
