Roborovski Hamster Had Stroke: Any tips?
I have a 1 year old roborovski hamster named Marmalade, and he had a stroke 4 days ago. My family and I have been hand feeding him and giving him water, and he seems to be doing okay. The issue is his right side of his body is paralyzed.
He is usually a very clean hamster, but he is forced to poop and pee on himself. I have tried using a slightly damp washcloth, but the pee turns into crust and sticks to his fur. I know it isn't good to bathe them, it's just he's miserable. I've tried sandbaths, which I always keep in his cage but it just isn't working.
Does anybody have any tips? I would happily take any advice at the moment.

Re: Roborovski Hamster Had Stroke: Any tips?
I'm sorry to hear this. Hammies can recover from strokes but it sounds like Marmalade as been quite badly affected in that he has lost his bowel and bladder control.
If he does not regain this he will become sore with urine burns and also unable to re eat part of the poo to allow him to reprocess it through and gain essential nutrients.
Have you seen a vet? I would ask them if they think he will improve at all and what the outlook would be for the future. If you feel he has no quality of life then you need to be strong and let him pass peacefully over the bridge. He trusts you to make that choice for you.
