Maybe I'm paranoid with all the recent threads of penis prolapses and that kind of problems, but lately I noticed that my hamster underparts were strange. Maybe he is ok, and I don't know how they should look, but I would swear that they didn't look that way before. I find that one of the holes (I think it's the anus) it's like protuding, and the skin around the hole looks a little bit dry. If you let me be clear, it looks like a dry vagina. Is it normal? I'm really worried.
I shoot a video, but he doesn't like to be handled, so he obviously dislike the way I was holding him and I didn't want to do it for a long time or a lot of times, so the shoot isn't very clear. It looks more clear when he has his testicles outside (or apart from his body, like when they're really hot) but for some reason (maybe because he was scared) he hide them and that way the problem was harder to see too. I think that the part when it's more visible it's at the end of the video, because he hadn't hidden completely his testicles in that shot, but as I said in real life when he's relaxed I think it's more visible. What concerns me the most is that it looks like he has dry skin in there.
I'm not really sure as I'm not used to syrians, I've only seen a prolapse in a Russian ham & there was really no sign of anything wrong until it was suddenly very obvious, a small pink area protruding & a some spots of blood, if it looks different to you then a vet check might be worthwhile but maybe someone with syrian experience can help more.

He looks totally fine to me Generally speaking, you'll see signs that things are wrong before rectal prolapses and other such issues occur so as long as you're diligent (as I'm sure you are) then I wouldn't worry. That bit of skin is just part of the testicles, most males have it, especially as they get older. Duncan has that as well and I was worried too, but my vet said it was totally normal!
I hope Blacky is ok. You know I only have dwarfs and have only been keeping hams for nearly 10 months so it's not something I've ever come across. Sounds like Drago has given you some good news though and it's not anything to worry about.

You're very diligent as Drago says, so you'll spot any changes. I'll check Harvey when he's up and about.

Thank you cypher, drago, BP and Lizzy for your answers
I'm more relaxed now but I'll keep and eye on him. Maybe he's just getting older and that's why he's changing a bit I don't know for sure how old is he, but at least he's 10 months old if not older.

No, no, I didn't get him til September 23th, but I was told that he was 3 or 4 months old (so I did my math) but he could be much older or a little bit younger because the pet shop lady didn't look very well informed at all. He was probably a little bit old because he was fully grown and his nails were very long when I got him, but guessing his birthday would be impossible, so I think he's going to have to settle with a special gotcha day or something
I also read somewhere that black hams become more brownish when they get old, and he definitely is more brownish than black right now, actually is kinda funny because under a good lightning you can see that he has like a darker stripe in the middle of his back, and his head is darker too, but the sides of his body and his nose are clearer, like dark brown.

Reason: I added some information
I'm never entirely sure when my hams birthdays are so I just make up an approximate "official birthday" for them, a gotcha day is always good too, any excuse for extra treats
My first ham was black & he turned a deep rich chocolate brown as he aged, I don't know if all black animals go brown but I do know sheep & hams do!
