Exclamation Missing Fur

My Russian Dwarf Tey has a path of missing fur under his chin. Is this normal? I noticed it yesterday but it's not any worse. Today he's also missing fur around his scent gland, and the skin is a reddish colour. Does anyone know what this could be? I'll book him a vet appointment tomorrow.

Poor little Tey

Can you get a picture? Is he in a cage where bar chewing is possible? Pictures will really help us out! Hope all is okay

He's in a bin cage and isn't really tall enough to chew the bars, and I've never heard him doing it either. I've got a photo, but he wouldn't stay still, so it's not amazing, but it's the little red patch between his paws and his nose/ face.

Poor little guy, it definitely looks irritated A vet visit would probably be a very good idea at this point. The picture makes it a bit easier, do you have one of his scent gland as well? Does it appear to be a growth type thing? Or do you notice any form of scabbing? Is there anything sharp in the cage?

There isn't anything sharp in the cage, but he has a respiratory problem and I'm thinking he could be allergic to wood shavings, is that possible to cause that? I noticed some bits of white skin, they may be scabs or they may just be dry. I'll get a photo of the scent gland one now.

Here's a picture. His scent gland used to be completely covered with fur. He likes to wee on some sawdust in an corner and then sleeps on it. Could this be a possible cause?

Does it appear to be a fungal sort of issue? The sawdust being wet could be part of it. The problem with sleeping on peed on bedding is that ammonia burns can develop. Has he itched at it at all?

No, it doesn't appear to be fungal. He may have been scratching it. He looked like he was scratching his nose but his foot never actually reached, but I'm not sure if it was just too fast or if he was scratching under his chin.

It could possibly be an ammonia burn in that case which would make sense since he was lying on soiled bedding. I would try to remove all wet bedding whenever he uses the litter and try to encourage him to make a nest in a dry area

He has another nest but decides to use another house too. I think it might have put it on the corner where he has his toilet though without realising, so I'll move it and probably put a litter tray in as well. Is an ammonia burn easy to treat? I'm just wondering what the vet will say if you're right.
