Keep him dry and give him foods to help with coat health such as flax seed. If the patches seem really inflamed, you can put on a bit of neosporin on the chin. I would definitely bring him to a vet as they'll definitely know what is wrong (if it's even ammonia burn at all!) and will know how to make him feel all better

I took him to the vet yesterday and they weren't really sure what it was. However, I've changed his wood shavings to paper based bedding (as I wanted to do that anyway), as I think he might have been having an allergy to the wood shavings. The ammonia burn or an allergy seem most likely, and I'm keeping an eye on him.
