Unhappy Help! My hamster is sick!

Hi, I'm new to the page and am in need of advise. I have 2 Siberian Dwarf hamsters. One is over two years old, probably almost 3. When I went to check on him and he was hunched over not really moving much. He is breathing pretty hard and is also very weak. Every time he walks around he has to stop and rest for a while before he can move again. Before this I had noticed he had been drinking a lot more water then usual. He also has one eye closed, which I managed to help him open with a q-tip and warm water.

I know he might need to see a vet but I cannot afford to take him. It might just be his time, but I still want him to be as comfortable as I can.

~Any suggestions will help, thanks.

It does sound that he is nearing his time to be called. At this age they are really very elderly. If you feel he is not in any pain and just setting off on his final path I would try and ensure he is kept warm but not hot and that food is available nearbye in a low dish. You can offer some soft food like babyfood or porridge on a teaspoon and leave some in something like a pringles lid for him to lap. He may be tempted by a little cucumber too. I wouldn't fuss with the eye too much just now as he probably doesn't really mind it shut.
If you feel he is in pain then you really do need to find some way of getting him to a vet even if it means calling round to find someone who will let you pay in installments. It is possible he may need help to the bridge.
I hope his path is gentle.

Thank you for the advise, but sadly he passed away in his sleep today. I don't think he was in any pain, it was just his time. He lived a long healthy and happy life.
