Male hamster genital problems: UPDATE

I've had Watson for just over a month now and on Thursday I noticed when I picked him up that his penis was showing. At this point I thought nothing of it and put him back thinking it would retract on its own, fast forward to today and it still has not retracted. At this point I'm panicking and Googled to see if there was any way to fix this problem and found that people had suggested using KY jelly to help so I followed the advice.

If it doesn't work is it worth taking him to the vet to see what they suggest I do about this?

Edit: I did try giving him water in case he is dehydrated but Watson despises me and won't let me hold him for very long and certainly will not let me put anything in his mouth.

It sounds like penile prolapse to me, and the KY jelly along with trying to get it back in would be the best thing to do! If however you can't, it's important that he is taken to the vet as it can become quite painful and even become infected which you definitely do not want. As for the water, I wouldn't worry as long as his bottle seems to be working. Try offering a cube of cucumber if it's really bothering you as this will give him the bit of water he needs. If his water bottle isn't working, try using a bowl, it's much simpler.

It sounds like he may have a prolapse to me too, you need to get him to the vet as soon as you can.

I think taking him to the vet is the best thing to do too. The vet can also examine him to see what the possible cause of it is as well. Assume Watson is a baby if he's only just over a month?

So I posted a couple of days ago about my hamster Watson and his genital problems. I Actually ended up ringing the vet on Saturday who asked if I was able to make it in that day, as I was unable to get to my vet that day I booked an appointment for today.

I took him in to my vet today who agreed that it was a penile prolapse and that it was sore because of the bedding in Watson's cage. To make a long story short, he ended up going for surgery this morning and it went well, I've just come back from back from collecting him and he is back to his usual self and well enough to take a chunk out of my finger and make me bleed as soon as I go to shut the door of his cage.

Thankyou to the people who posted on my previous thread about it being a prolapse and the suggestion to take him to the vet! ^_^
