Exclamation Prolapse

Hi... Sugar is the first Hamster I have owned... I do a pretty good job taking care her and try to be the best mother a hamster could have. She is about 2 1/2 years old so she is by far not a spring chicken. I have taken her to a vet a few months ago due to abnormal growths on her paws. The vet said that they don't seem to be causing her pain and to remove them they'd have to put her under the gas but due to her age they don't want to risk her not recovering from the gas. Fast forward to Friday early morning (right past midnight my time) I noticed a red thing coming out of (can't tell if it's her anus or female part) her behind. After some reading I'm pretty sure it is a prolapse just not sure if it's rectal or uterine. I did some reading and a pet expert suggested using a water and sugar paste and someone else who took his hammy to the vet suggested using Vaseline on hours of it going back in. Not sure if the sugar and water worked but the Vaseline did. Obviously based on what is posted earlier if I take her to the vet they won't be able to do anything even if I did have the money for the surgeries plus with her tumors on her paws chances are she has cancer else where also. The prolapse itself is visible past her tail when she walks. My question is with it being so far out is there any chance of it going back in on its own by using Vaseline or the sugar and water mix? I just want to know so I can figure out my next course of action. I don't want her to suffer but also don't want to end her life if she still has some. Also she eats and drinks and pops like normal. She even walks around. I took out her Wood shaving bedding and put in an old t-shirt of move. Took out her tubes and wheel as suggested by a previous forum I read. The only thing I left in the cage was her plastic igloo so she can hide from my young nephew and get nice and quiet time. And no I don't let me nephew hold her. He will look in her cage and if we have her out we will hold her and let him pet her but he is being supervised the whole time to make sure he doesn't squeeze her.

Default Re: Prolapse

If she has tissue protruding from either vents I'm sorry to say the prognosis is very poor especially with a rectal prolapse as she will not be able to pass any poo if the bowel is outside the body. It quickly dries out and will die resulting in pain. Similar can happen with the womb. At this age she really is very old and must have had a lovely life.
She is very unlikely to survive an op at this age and either scenario is likely to be inoperable anyway.
Look deep in your heart now and know that you have to do what is best for her. I'd get her to the vet urgently and I would really consider setting her free to make a peaceful journey to the bridge before she becomes critical after the vet has seen her. I hope her path is gentle x
