Happy for you that all went well & that today wasn't his last day. Hope he's able to take his meds well. That can be a little stressful. You could try putting it on his favorite food or a good sized piece of oat.

I was going to suggest putting it in food too. But not the baby food maybe or it might put him off eating it. Mixing it in with a bit of porridge on a teaspoon maybe - that way you can make sure he gets all of the medicine. Coco's thread for Mocho and Jarvis has a few tips for disguising medicine in food.

Re: My Chinese dwarf hamster has a red lump?
Ah thanks for your nice messages, can't tell you how pleased I am he's back home! 2 1/2 years old and he came home from his first vet visit...result!!
Well I've made him some porridge (it has a tiny bit of digestive biscuit in it..he loves them but they are usually a rare treat)..and I have added his meds. Don't have an egg cup so I've put it in the underside of a Douwe Egberts coffee jar lid..it's made of glass and heavy.
I also had some chicken..so I've given him a tiny bit of that...spoiling him tonight.
He just came out for the first time since we got home..and went straight for his sweetcorn and cucumber...
He's ok...yay.....thanks again ...appreciated muchly!!

Ah thanks serendipity beginning to think I did the wrong thing! Hes in a terrible state. I'm not sure if I'm killing him. I tried everything...baby food...science select soaked..nothing worked except veggies which are giving him diarrhoea. So I tried soaked hamster egg biscuits..he eats it but he's diabetic so shouldn't. Then I tried the filling of chicken slice...he wolf's it down...but it's full of salt. I've got to the stage where I'll give him anything just so he'll eat! He's sooooo greasy...hairs falling out...hunched up..thin...and starving...he's crazy for food but I think he's confusing pain with hunger. Oh and his eye is twitching...Wish I could show you the little video I just made of him...so sad.
He just finished his last painkillers from tomorrow it's just pain with no relief from me!!
Guess what I've got to do??

Re: My Chinese dwarf hamster has a red lump?
I'm so sorry Julie, if you think he may still recover then I would go back to the vet for more meds, if he's eating the egg biscuit it may be what he needs right now as his sugar levels could be low if he isn't eating normally so some symptoms could be due to the diabetes getting out of control, the diarrhoea could be from the meds as much as the veg & some probiotics may help with that, & evening primrose & flax could help with his hair loss.
I'm sorry if all that has come to late & it may be his time to go to the bridge now, I know how hard this must be & feel so much for you.

Thanks cypher....I couldn't do it...and I'm glad I didn't. Poor baby he's going to die naturally. I decided that he will be less stressed dying in his own bed. Just like my husband did (cancer) he wanted to die at home and died peacefully in my arms. But it was painful to watch just like pip! Pips had a stroke...he's breathing hard and fast and is wobbly. But he's trying to eat and I've placed his cucumber and shallow dish of water by his bed.
I am not going to kill him because he's old..I would if he were young and savagely injured..or had terrible illness. I may be wrong..but he's just old..I'm making him as comfortable as I can. He's warm...he's home..he's eating..he's dying. I'm not sure he'll make the night...but he's not stressed...just pottering around his home...
Just feeling upset a bit....

Re: My Chinese dwarf hamster has a red lump?
It's only natural that you feel upset, it's always hard when we know their time is close, I've had hams die at home & have to go to the vet, it's not an easy choice sometimes but I think they do show us which is right & you know your little man & what's right for him.
I'm sure it's a comfort for him to be in his home with you close by, if it is his time I hope he can pass peacefully.
Thinking of you both.
