Hi Guys. Just to update you all. took Pumpkin to the vets today. He thinks she has some type of hepatitis as her liver felt hard. given us some antibiotic to try and keep fingers crossed. Said it could be bacterial or airborne. Although he said he didn't think it was anything I had done wrong still feel guilty as she was ok for the first seven weeks we had her. Has anyone else had this with their hamsters.

So sorry to hear that, but glad the vet sussed it and she has antibiotics. It won't be anything you have done. It's most likely caused by a virus or infection. Do you have any other pets in the house? Also how wide are the bars on her cage? Just wondering about mice But I think you'd know if you had any mice Did the vet advise on diet or supplements at all? Dandelion root is supposed to help detox the liver - you can buy dried dandelion roots from Zooplus - our Syrian loved chewing on them.

Hi Serendipity. Pumpkin died in the night. At least she's not suffering anymore. But no we don't have any other pets. The vet just advised giving her hamster mix. I did manage to get 1 dose of antibiotic into her. It was so stressful at the vets. It took three of them to get her out of the carrier. She nearly fell off the table and in the end they threw a towel over her. Sounds awful but these vets did have excellent reviews. Just think she was very poorly and that finished her off. I must admit I have found it all a little stressful. I think I overstressed about everything, her cage, the room temp, taming her in the right way(although we never got to pick her up and cuddle her). I am sure if we got another I would try and chill out a bit more.

Pumpkin, I'm so sorry to hear that. Hamsters hide their illness very well, by the time you realise their behaviour is off, they can be extremely poorly. It sounds like you cared for her a great deal in her short life and wanted to do everything right.

RIP little Pumpkin, play well at the Rainbow Bridge x
