freezing hamster
last night I noticed one of my robo hamsters was frozen on his flying saucer i watched him for a bit but he was still frozen I gently moved the wheel around but he was still frozen his friend (my other robo) started running on the same flying saucer he was on but he was still frozen even though he was spinning quit fast!he was like this for around 10mins
it was quit late so I went to bed and in the morning he was in bed so I didn't want to disturb him his friend seems fine. I know hamsters freeze sometimes but I have never known it happen for this long.
if anyone knows what it might be that would be great

Re: freezing hamster
Your hamster may have heard or smelled something that spooked him and he was intent on figuring out what it was. Hamsters have exceptional hearing and it could have been anything that set him off, things you may not be able to hear or may not notice. A mouse crawling in the walls is inaudible to human ears, but may make a hamster weary. A dog barking on the street nearby could spook them. When he was frozen did he seem frightened or just spaced out? I've never heard of a hamster freezing that long either, but stranger things have happened!

Re: freezing hamster
It sounds to me like your hamster could have been seriously 'spooked' by something and maybe he was 'playing dead' as a safety precaution.

Re: freezing hamster
Maybe check the surrounding area to your house/apartment. Hear any odd noises? Check around your home, is there anything out of the ordinary? Animals behaving strange and aberrantly is usually a sign that something's amiss

Re: freezing hamster
That is weird both robos freezing at the same time on seperate nights.
I would arrange to be in the room just before that time comes to see if happens again.

Re: freezing hamster
If it's been the same time of night, is your boiler turning/off or anything like that? Or something electrical kicking in? Sounds like something has caught each of them unawares. They can freeze for quite a long time or do it seems!

Re: freezing hamster
They can hear high pitched sounds that we can't. They can freeze for our long time. Our Syrian did this in his playpen once and for so long I got quite worried. He came out of it when I picked him up and stroked him. As the others say, something might have spooked them. What time was it?
