Help!
My hamster isn't looking well at all. I just walked into the room and noticed her lying in her cage with her eyes shut. At first I thought she had died but she is moving slightly. She's a little cold so I've got her on my lap with fleecy material around her to try and warm her up. She's 1 year and 8 months old but hasn't been showing any signs of aging and has continued to be very active. Is there anything else I could do to help her come round? She won't take any water from me as she seems too weak. I really hope she can pull through

Re: Help!
I'd take her to the vet immediately, those symptoms don't sound good at all and at her age it would be extremely hard for her to pull through. Take a syringe or eye dropper and try giving her water that way, I notice weaker hams will sometimes take it when offered to them like that. Place it at the side of her mouth NOT directly in the front. If her temperature is dropping get a heat pad out on the low setting and have her on it. Take her to the vet ASAP otherwise the chances of her pulling through are very slim. I hope she feels better soon and all turns out alright

Re: Help!
Unfortunately Amber passed away a few hours ago. I did everything I could to try and bring her back round but she was too far gone. She lived a very happy life with us and she will be missed a whole lot <3

Re: Help!
Thoughts are with you. Your doing well keeping her warm, it doesn't sound good but as Drago was saying, if you have a heating pad is a good idea.
Edit: just saw you lost her. So sorry! Run free at the bridge. Hope you are ok

Re: Help!
I'm so sorry, my sympathies go to you. You were a good ham parent to her and there for her until her last moments. She lived nearly two years and that's pretty impressive for a ham. May she Rest In Peace

Re: Help!
Sorry to hear of your loss Hammielover. At 18 months, she would be in her dotage even though some hamsters can go on far longer, fate has an element in how long they have depending on various factors. Sounds to me as though her body has not been able to stabilise heat or she`s just suddenly came down with acute illness and hasn`t had the energy to bounce back.
When I took my Russian hybrid to my vet about three weeks before he passed on, the vet told me what a good age he was (around two and a half or more) saying that most hamsters never see past two. I looked at him and said most of mine all lived to nearer three! He was surprised.
Sad loss for you. Rest in peace little one. x

Re: Help!
Thank you all for your kind words it's really appreciated. Up until that day she was just her usual self, whizzing around her cage. There didn't seem to be anything to indicate that she was sick so it came as a shock when I found her like that. She did live a fairly long life though and I'm super grateful for the time I had with her. It's difficult having an empty cage now. I miss her a lot
