Re: To euthanise or not?
She does like banana, I know I'm humans it's meant to do the opposite but I didn't know it was the same for hamsters! I'll definitely let her have a bit of that then! Thank you x

Re: To euthanise or not?
Just thinking it wouldn't be such an issue as with veg I think apple is ok too. I give a small piece without the skin.

Re: To euthanise or not?
Little 5mm pieces of apple, raw broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, garden pea, green bean and sweetcorn. All safe and loved by hams. Just a few pieces to start with and see how she goes. These are the best vitamins too as they are natural. x

Re: To euthanise or not?
We've cleaned her out tonight. She refused to come out of her little island of bedding so we just took away as much as possible without forcing her to move so I couldn't get a look at her back end. Her eyes were open and she took Apple from me. She's still getting out to go potty and there were lots of solid poops so we're going to leave her at home a little longer because she seems like that's where she wants to be, she busied herself in pulling her bedding back to make a nest again so I think she's comfy for now ❤

Re: To euthanise or not?
That sounds positive. I think you're right to let her enjoy her cage and have peace, some nice titbits of food and just do her own thing. You could put a big pile of new nesting material near her house door as well so she can enhance her nest and make it cosy (torn up strips of plain white toilet paper). Also make sure she is warm enough - you might need to leave some heating on low at night. Keep the room at a comfortable temperature.

Re: To euthanise or not?
We did have the heating on last night anyway although she was acting very parchluar overnight.
When we finished cleaning her she went back to sleep in her nest, I woke up at 4am and she was hiding under her wheel (which she never does) but she was still breathing and ok. Woke up at 9am and she has gone and hidden under her bridge out of view. I moved it slightly and she's still breathing but does that mean something?

Re: To euthanise or not?
It's probably because of the clean out - they can get a bit frazzled by the change of smells (or lack of smells!) and the nest being disturbed. It could also be that she is getting ready to go unfortunately - but who knows? Just put lots of new torn up strips of white toilet paper out for her near her house so she can rebuild her nest how she wants it - if she feels inclined.

Re: To euthanise or not?
It may just have been a reaction to cleaning her, although necessary she probably found that quite stressful but as prey animals the instinct when unwell or getting close to their time is to hide & a ham that isn't really tame is more likely to show those instincts unlike more tame ones who may want cuddles at the end, I think all you can do is try to keep her comfortable really.
