Default Eye problem

Hello
I would be grateful if someone could give me advice please? We have had our Syrian, Nibbles, for nearly a year now. Lovely temperament etc. In the last week on and off she has had red around her eye (she is a red eyed hamster anyway) but it was like on her eye rim and around her eye. It seems to have been weeping too. When we noticed it we changed her nest bedding (not entirely) to some more and it went away. But then it happened again. We use Asdas own tissues for her nesting bedding tore into strips. Always have and it's always been ok. We took her to vets on Thursday and she must have been petrified. She was really squealing and even the vet said she is crying a lot. The vet put some of that iodine in her eye to look for an ulcer behind her eye but thankfully there wasn't anything. She was asking about vitamins in her drink etc and prescribed us some but it hasn't come yet. She also prescribed us some Isathal which we have to put in three times a day for a week. I'm just worried in case this doesn't do anything. We're having to put these drops in three times a day which must be awful for her. Also he eye doesn't seem to be improving. Whether it's because we're waking her up or not I don't know, but just now her eye was shut like it was stuck. Has anyone got any advice or experiences? I don't like to say I don't trust the vet but sometimes I do question their advice.
Thanks very much
Kirsty

Forgot to say that she was asking about vitamins because the vet said she could be lacking in vitamin c and a nerve or something could have broken behind her eye. We went to pets at home and bought some Beaphar vitamin drops to add to water and the receptionist at the vet said that they will do the job.

Yeah I have but nothing is exactly spot on and sometimes it's better not to google something as it can quickly escalate and is worrying. A worst case scenario always comes up.

I know, does the vet know what your ham may have?

On the rare occasions when my dwarfs had anything wrong with their eyes, a 1/2% chloramphenicol drops were very good. Not suggesting that you should us this.
But treatment of eye problems in dwarfs, like humans, take few days to show any improvement. Observe the little friend

She said that she thinks it's a broken vessel behind her eye due to lack of vitamin c. So we have gotten her the Beaphar vitamin drops to hopefully help.

There is a condition which can cause a build up of blood behind the eye, can't remember what it's called sorry, I think it may sometimes be due to an infection (with a discharge that looks like blood), I haven't heard of it being caused by vit c deficiency & hams don't generally need much vit c, if you feed fresh veg daily that should give plenty, if it doesn't clear up soon I would go back to the vet, she may need antibiotics or other treatment.
I wouldn't give vitamin drops too long as most ham food has added vitamins & you can end up giving too much of certain vitamins which isn't good for them.
