Default Baileys bald patch am I right to be worried.

[ATTACH]38897[/ATTACH
Hi I have had Bailey just over 12 months and tonight I noticed a small bald patch on his back. My other half says I'm over reacting but do I have any cause for concern. In himself he is the same old Bailey eating and lively.
Thank you.

It could be mites. Have you noticed Bailey scratching?

His hair does look as though it's thinning a bit there, if he doesn't scratch or rub his back against anything that could cause that it's possible it may just be a sign of getting older or it could be something else causing it, I would just keep an eye on it for now & if it gets any worse have you vet check it out.

Hi thank you for your responses, I haven't seen him scratching or over cleaning himself but what he does in his bed I'm not sure. Even so I did check his bedding last night, and it was fine but still gave him a good clean out. The skin doesn't look inflamed or sore so I'm hoping it nothing serious. My only other conclusion he is a little rascal and despite having the run of the front room he still tries to get to the back of the TV where all the wires are, and he knows it's out of bounds, so I have to watch him like a hawk. When he thinks I'm not watching he has a go send when I stop him he thinks his escape route is up the back of the radiator and the wall and I'm thinking he rubbing his back against the wall. I'm just going to have to be more creative in future and old dvd boxes to block of the entrance doesn't cut the mustard. I will keep an eye on him and maybe buy some flax seeds today.

Many thanks

LL

Cheeky little man! It does sound as though rubbing might be the issue.
A few flax seeds never hurt anyway, they really are good for them & most hams love them too.

Hi, it looks like I was right to be concerned about Bailey, we took him to the vet and the poor little guy is on anti-biotics it looks like a skin infection. The only other thing he is traumatised he hasn't gone back into his bed and seems to hiding in another part of the cage, I just hope he comes round. Unfortunately I have to take him back next week for a check up.

Hi LL, that is exactly the reaction my Mocho had when I took him to the vet last month. It was his first ever visit and had to be woken up and put into his carrier in the middle of the day. Mocho slept under his barney shelf for days and stuffed up the entrance to his house! I think he was hoping I wouldn't know where he was in case I wanted to dig him out! It took him some days to go home but he did. Unfortunately his next visit is in a week so he won't be too pleased with me!
Bailey will settle down again in time but maybe not before the next visit. Do hope he improves on the antibiotics.

Sorry to hear about both the infection & how stressed the poor little guy has been, try not to worry too much though he should settle again soon enough.
