Sweep has to get his nails cut regularly as he refuses to use anything that trims them down!! This is only £7 If he has a check up it's about £20. He did have an injection once, but she only charged me the check up price which was nice of her Had he gone back for a follow up it would have been free!

Over the 16 years of having hamsters, I've spent a lot but, it's money I don't mind spending because I love my hams. Archie had quite a bit spent on him but, I put money away each month into the vet fund, so I've never had to worry.
But some years back when I was unemployed for a short while, I pawned some jewellery so I could pay a vet bill. I didn't think twice about it as my hamster's health was more important.
With under skin mites Archie had injections.

I hear about injections, is it a needle the vet uses or is it oral injections? If it's a needle, we don't have that in the states?

How often does the vet give needle injections, if that is what they are?

Thanks

SKB, that's alot of money! I converted it to US dollars, good for you for doing all you could!

Thin Lizzy pawned some jewelry, says alot, u must have really loved him

Cypher, finding the right vet is so important, even if it's more money. Get what you pay for I think, that's what the exotic vets say anyways

Amity, I have lots of spare water bottle, bottle holders & wheels. I just threw out a water bottle cause it kept leaking & made the bedding wet. Once it leaked a 2nd time then into the garbage it went

Pink Neon, sounds like you have a good & kind vet

Injection is a needle - I think it is just one injection - but not 100% sure on that.

I think it can be more than one injection, like the topical treatment some cases respond much quicker than others but I'm not totally sure either tbh, if you change vets CB ask what the different treatment options are, maybe they'll know more than your current vet does.

Thanks both, I have a vet in mind who is probably the best in my location. Her office visit alone cost $70. That's almost double the cost of other vets.

Hopefully, Koala gets free from mites & this specialist vet won't be necessary? He does seem better, not sure as he may be scratching in his house. I haven't seen him scratching today.

If this second vet can't help I would know what to do? One of those mites bit me & it hurt so I'm willing to go to the 2nd vet if needed, I'll know by end of this week.

Could you try giving immune boosting foods. Boosting the immune system is supposed to help them fight mites (just as stress makes them more susceptible to mites). The only immune boosters I can think of, off hand, are brazil nuts and dried echinacea leaves. But a quarter of a brazil nut once a week might go down well, and an echinacea leaf once a week.

A helpful tip must be shared!Rosewood do echinacea and this can be ordered on Viovet

https://www.viovet.co.uk/Boredom_Bre...nimals/c15816/ There are also a variety of natural forages and treats as well as some very unique dwarf hamster sized toys to look at as well

Thanks true, to boost their immune system.
I'll call health food store about Brazil nuts & dried echenacia leaves.

I planed on having vet administer meds for the last 4 days this week (Tues - Friday) just to make sure he gets all his med, last couple of days I'm having trouble.

Then cleaning his cage every starting today, just for 4-5 more days. Know this will stress him. But I'll know I'll have a strong finish.

Thanks both, will look into these suggestions.

Amity, didn't see your post till just now,

I've picked him up by the scruff 27 times now, I don't want to do it anymore, the vet will only charge $5/ day
