Default Hamster always closes one eye

When she first wakes up, one my hamsters eyes is kinda sealed by a brown gunk. Does anyone know what this could be?
Thanks
Jazza

Sometimes this can happen if the hamster is feeling run down or is sleeping more. If the eye can`t open, you can gently bathe it with a clean cotton pad and warm water, wiping from front to back. Infection can also be a reason, but the hamster would probably show other illness symptom too like lethargy, lack of eating, looking unwell....

The eyes produce secreted liquid tears to prevent the eye drying out so it will help if you can gently wet the eyelid with the cotton pad and try to gently open the eyelid and then let the hamster clean her face.

How is she now?

im not an expert but before i got hamster i read a book on hamsters and how to care and health problems etc. i cant remember much about health problems but of course reading a book on hamsters can probably help you there. if you know any hamster owners or anyone who previosly had a hamster then ask them if their hamsters had it and what to do about it. this is my first response on Hamster Central, its not much but i hope it helps

Glad to hear that. Sometimes it`s a good idea to give things time as sticky eye can be just that. An eye that has produced liquid either through tear production or an irritation and when the hamster washes itself, it manages to unstick the crust. If S/he can`t, then trying the wet cotton pad helps. x
