Default DIY gnawing ideas?

Hey giys, i'm starting to think my hammies teeth are getting a bit long (cage biting and bar chewing). I am very busy at the moment to visit the pet store to buy gnawing sticks, is there anything i can let him chew with home materials?

Cardboard kitchen roll tubes could work!

Untreated kiln dried pine can be used to make various toys or you could just put in a small chunk of it if you wanted. You could also try and buy other safe wood, and make a toy out of that or just add it in plain.

If your hamster won't chew plain wood and you have a drill, try drilling some holes into the wood and putting in seeds and other things like that! You could even put some of the regular food that you use that way as well, which would help with boredom.

Try putting toys in different arrangements! Some floor toys are great,as are larger toys that can be used as ramps and such if you want. You can also do hanging toys that also allow foraging such as the same drilled wood technique and just hang wood on hemp or sisal.

If your hams teeth appear to be too long after bar chewing then they may well have been damaged or not be properly aligned now which could need attention from a vet even if you do find something they will chew on, if you need something in a hurry I'd just go to the supermarket & get some Bonio dog biscuits.

They don't look massive, although he's only bar chewed once

Apply wood & pear wood tends to go down well (just small branches from apple / pear trees)

A nut in the shell can help keep teeth and nails short You may need to make a small hole to encourage them to try and open it.
