Spending time with him afterwards and seeing how peaceful they look really does help.
With Twinkle the vet gave me time and I felt relief at seeing how peaceful and pain free she looked. His burial sounds perfect and so nice to read that your son made a cross.
Over the coming weeks, emotions will be all over the place, I found myself laughing one minute and crying the next remembering Twinkle's Diva side. But it does get better.

Thank you, Thin Lizzy. I'm finding that too; I'm okay one minute then quite upset the next. Bizarre really, but entirely natural. I miss the little fella, plain and simple.

I think that's it - we miss them. He is still with you in your heart and always will be and he's scurrying free now over the rainbow
