Not surprising at all. I wash my hands far too much and I've been trying to stop doing it so much, when you use something to help keep a phobia under control it is very difficult to stop using said thing.
Congratulations for taking the biggest step.

I know where you are coming from there - we can get satisfaction in using a product we've always used and having a feelgood factor about it - but there are better options than bleach these days and much easier to use as well (and less stinky lol!). I always used Jif cream to clean baths. I carried on using it for a long time, because it was my go to bath cleaner, event though it was xxxxx hard work and elbow grease and took loads of rinsing and left the bath gritty. I was suspicious of cleaning wipes. Now I wouldn't touch a bottle of Jif if they gave me a year's free supply! All that effort! They probably don't even make it any more. My grandmother always used Vim - even grittier! She would go out of her way to find a place that sold it. It's just old habits I guess - but sometimes it's good to change them and find something better.

I use the dettol anti bacteria spray and wipes for cleaning. I use the odourless one. A few years back, I had an obsession with bleach, even cleaning my hands with it. But, I did get help for it. Now, I can't stand the smell of it.
I was a bit wary of the wipes at first but, they're brilliant!
Serendipity, they still sell Cif. It hasn't been Jif for years lol!

I have a couple CIF Sprays, I can't stand the stuff that's in a tall bottle, it's awful, was made to use it as a kid when I cleaned up, no matter how much I cleaned, there was ALWAYS a chalky residue that wouldn't go away. Still just as awful as it was then, hence my love of bleach. But, I used the dettol spray and wipes yesterday for a quick clean, got to do a deep clean today, with the Dettol. I was actually happier without the stink of bleach, never realised how bad it really was until you're without it. Definitely something that will not be used in this flat ever again, honestly quite pleased but still found myself reaching for it in the shop, but I'll work on that

You could try visualising the bottle of bleach as a giant mealworm with big jaws and that will make you run from it Not sure if visualisation helps but it might be worth a try.

Well done you...!

If I want things extra clean I use Milton Fluid if it's good enough for keeping babies feeding bottles etc clean then it is fine for my Hammies and have never had a prob with it.

Good on you Gemma, you've taken such a big step and you should be pleased with yourself.
Glad the dettol wipes & spray went well.

I think it's nice using the Dettol wipes - they aren't so harsh on hands either. I get eczema using cleaning products and find they're not too bad So it's win win - they kill all the bad bugs and don't wreck your skin. I should wear rubber gloves but find I sweat in them which is just as bad.
