Question Nutmeg's Vet trip

Hello all,

So this is what happened at the vets:

When the vet asked is she friendly I said 'yes' and Nutmeg bit the vet twice! I know that this is ok and so did the vet as Nutmeg was in a new environment and she was being handled in a different way so that's fine. I asked them about Pyo and they said that she has no discharge coming from her genatalia and that she is showing no other signs so they said she didn't have that, AHHH A RELIEF! So I then asked about the eyes being a signal for something else and they said that she isn't showing any signs of being a sick hamster and is lively, playing and showing no signs or hurting (I know hamsters don't show signs of illness but the vet said she is happy an healthy), so then it was a relief to find that the vet said that she was healthy. I asked about a scan and they said that they would do it if she declined in health very fast as the size of the scanner is that of Nutmeg's abdomen.

So in all they said that she is actually very healthy and that I need to keep a very close eye on her and to keep an eye on her weight. I said that her appetite was fine and she was drinking a little more being sort of lethargic but they said again make sure that her weight is ok and if I find that her weight declines or increases I need to go back straight away. I know it doesn't sound like much but they said Nutmeg is a healthy hamster.

Thank you everybody for your help and that it is such a relief that Nutmeg doesn't have anything wrong.

She has just drunk A LOT of water and ate some food is that a problem (coming back from the vets)?

I have weighed her and she is 39g is that ok for a Campbell's Russian Dwarf Hybrid Hamster?

Drinking a lot of water could very well mean something is up with her. I wouldn't say she's out of the woods yet. My ham had a bloody discharge before passing not long after and she was drinking more than ever. Just keep an eye on her like the vet said. Drinking a lot more water isn't her normal behaviour as you know so the alarm bells should be ringing at this point.

I hope shell be just fine!

She does still need watched. Closed pyo does not show any discharge so they vet is wrong. Open pyo does show a discharge which can be bloody and usually smells foul. I do hope she is OK and just a bit chubby.
Is the vet experienced with small animals like hamsters?

I think so, but am not sure, I will keep a careful watch, what should I look out for then for closed pyo? I am also assuming as the vet said that Nutmeg's genetalia was clean that we can stop worrying about open pyo but not rule it out completely. Also how do you tell if your hamster is on heat?

Souffle's made a good point about Nutmeg still needing to be watched.
Female hams are in heat every 4 days, sometimes there is a smell and sometimes not.

Ok, will watch intently and I think she was on heat yesterday as she was mad on the wheel and there was a smell the other day to.
