Exclamation Signs of Pyo? Or am I being worried?

Hello all,

So in the past two weeks I have noticed Nutmeg's large belly (I don't know if its just if she is overweight, the angle that I am viewing her at or just how she is). I know she is not pregnant as the last male she came into contact with was in her litter at 8 weeks old and that was last year. So I became worried about whether or not she has pyo, there has been a smell from the cage but that I have noticed today however it isn't a fishy smell, she has drunk more when I am awake but I think that is because I am now in the pet room more as it has been re-done. No discharge (without being picked up[Easily visible, so I can't see it on her genetalia as I haven't picked her up to see if it is there yet as I want to see what people think so I could save her the stress of being picked up and to see if she has the discharge]) I don't think, only a little cruse from the eyes, some people may be familiar with on a previous thread.

Here are some pics of her belly- what does anybody think?

I think I'd have her checked out if I were you especially in light of the odd smell around the cage and the fact she does look quite wide in those pics. Does she feel sort of squishy at all? All the symptoms are classic pyo symptoms and after a litter they can be more prone to catching things.
With a closed pyo you don't get any discharge and the pus builds up in the womb. She does look very slightly 'drawn' in the pics across the head and you mention the sticky eyes which is usually a symptom of being unwell somewhere in the system.
I'd ask the vet to scan her if they are not sure so they can check if the womb is full of anything. If it is I would suggest going straight for a spay while she is still relatively fit as she will stand it better then.
It could also be a kidney or even a heart problem and she could be bloated with fluid in the abdomen so may be worth a urine test to check out for sugar & proteins and having the chest sounded.
I hope it is nothing but for your own peace of mind I'd try and find a hamster davvy vet to check her.

Right, I haven't handled her so am not sure if she is squishy at all, I will take her to the vets IMMEDIATLY and I am wandering by the the term "Scan" did you mean X-ray?

The vets are closed now but I will ring in the morning. There is an out of hours emergency line though.

You may not need an emergency vet but see what they have available. X rays wont show a pyo - a scan is like what ladies have when they have baby scans. It will show the presence of fluid filled organs using sound waves. They just run a probe over her tummy so not invasive.

So like an ultrasound. I have £45 in cash so do you think it would be under that if not I can still afford it but digging into my savings. Also so are you saying to ring the emergency vets?

I'd leave it till morning. I'm not sure about costs in your area however I'd ask about that when you call. The vet may say she is just fine - it is hard to judge from pics what is going on.

I have booked the vet appointment for today at 2:50, I hope Nutmeg doesn't have anything serious.
