Re: Urgent: The anus of my male syrian hamster looks odd
I'd have this checked out. It is difficult to assess what is going on. Is he pooping and peeing OK? How is he behaving? It does look very 'open' and stretched but again hard to work out from pics. There could be a cyst or infection causing swelling but if it looks abnormal to your eye then your gut instinct is usually correct that there is something going on. Where abouts are you based generally in case anyone knows a vet in your area?

He poops and pees and behaves as usual. But since i had him i saw him taking out poops manually sometimes. Maybe that irritates the skin or something?
Im looking for a vet who works with small pets, im hoping to go there tomorrow.

It's not a prolapse if he is able to poop and this would block the passage if it was prolapsed. That's good news. Maybe there is a little cyst or something or maybe just some irritation as you say.

Glad you've found a vet Let us know how you get on. It can quite normal for them to pull poops out though (and eat them as well!)

Re: Urgent: The anus of my male syrian hamster looks odd
I've seen a rectal prolapse in a mouse and a full colon prolapse in a Syrian. The mouse could still poo ok but even in the tiny rectal prolapse it was bright red whereas that pic looks dark. I'd agree with the posters above that it likely a warty thing or similar.

Glad you found a vet, I really hope they can sort him out for you, I've had a ham with a rectal prolapse & he could still poo too but hopefully it isn't that serious & your ham will be ok.
