My hamster has been missing all day and I have no idea where he is at! I live in an apartment that has an uncovered heater vent that he may gotten into that leads downstairs! He escaped his cage last night not sure on the time but he was gone when I woke up this morning at 7 am no where in sight since then. I have no idea what to do and I think the worst may have happened I should have posted on here sooner but I have been saddened and depressed all day and did not think of anything else but him I really miss my little little's I think he is younger and he is more active then my other one I have I think he is just getting older though. Please if you could help me or give me any advice thank you! I placed his food bowl on the floor along with some water in a dish and some hamster yogurt snacks with a light on it as a spot light!
I spent all day looking for him in my apartment only other escape out of here from the ground would have been those heater vents

Here is a great video on how to catch an escaped hamster, by Erin's animals.

Hello wrathzone. I know you are frightened by Alex's escape. But you should know that hamsters can be gone for quite a while and still be found. I had one little guy be lost for a month and I found him darting out from under a dresser.
Then do as josiah416 says. Follow Erin's instructions because the bucket trap works nearly every time. Have patience and let us know how it goes.

Re: My hamster Alex is missing and I don't know what to do!
There's not much you can do until you either spot him or hear him.
It can be really harrowing until you hear or see him. Don't panic just yet. And please do the bucket trap. The chances are good that after running around, Alex has nested somewhere and may be asleep now. With the trap setup it's likely he'll come out during the night.
Be careful where you walk as you don't want to step on him. I know it's miserable to not know where he is. Been there and it's awful. {hugs}

Ok thank you I will do the bucket thing now! I just really hope he is ok I have had him for almost 2 years now and would be very saddened if anything bad happened to him.

Re: My hamster Alex is missing and I don't know what to do!
I'm glad the heater is off. But, no, he wouldn't understand what a heater is all about. I never really knew how on earth my Dale got water when he was lost so long (I was in the hospital when he escaped) but they manage to find ways...maybe condensation off pipes. Are you sure he's in the heater? My Dale turned out to have nested under one of my dressers. The bedroom furniture is from 1953 and they made those things way heavy in those days. Dale was quite happy living under there.

Re: My hamster Alex is missing and I don't know what to do!
No i'm not sure he is in the heater I just thought I heard a squeak coming from that area though but i don't know for sure. The vent is right on the ground (near his cage but his cage is off the ground on a coffee table) with maybe an inch or inch and a half for a lip before it drops down. I made both my little's a play bin of sorts I used a pretty big plastic box from walmart and cut holes in the side so they can come and go from there cage when there little hamster hearts desire. Spuds my other hamster really can not escape from the gap because it is not that huge of one but Alex his cage was different so I had to use cardboard to make a make shift hallway coming from his cage to that one and I think that is how he got out from an opening in between the bin and the hallway is a gap.
