Default Wet tail advice

So we had our baby ham at the vet tonight- she has wet tail..
She was fine this morning but this afternoon she wasnt moving much and wasnt responding to pets... she wouldn't get up off her side.
I havent handled her proper since the day we got her but I wrapped her in a scarf and took her in the taxi
She's had some fluids and anti biotics, and have been given a liquid food to give her.
She's eaten a syringeful since we've come back. I'm not very good at getting out a little at a time but she doesn't seem to mind
(she's a she btw- pet shop thought she was male, vet confirmed a female)
she's a little dozy now thats she's eaten. We've got her in a towel on a warm (Not boiling) water bottle and my boyfriend is giving her rubs.
Is it okay to let her nap? How often should we be giving her water along with the food? (omni something.. 1ml an hour for tonight...)
We'll be phoning the vet no matter how it goes tomorrow...
I also want advice on disinfecting the cage and all her bowls and stuff- if she pulls through, a i freezing everything? have been told it can be recaught...

Her wee body feels warmer and she's sleeping on my boyfriends knee. Just watching her breathing to make sure she's okay.
I'm really hopeful because she's taking the food when its given to her okay, and when the water is given to her she is actively 'going for it' with the drinking.
She's just looks so small 13ish weeks and 70g? is that way too small?
Will feed her again at 9 oclock. Would be really grateful if someone who's been here before could comment letting me know we're doing everything okay here?

That's her passed away.
I'm crying. I feel so daft, she hasn't even been around a week yet. But it was so sudden, she was out on my knee last night and up eating sunflower seeds this morning and now she's just gone :'(

Oh no, I'm so sorry, don't feel stupid. Wet tail is really nasty and has a low survival rate so don't beat yourself up about it. You did everything you could for her and just think, she's roaming free over the bridge now, free of any pain or discomfort.

May she rest in peace xx

My next question is what to do with her body... I don't want to bin her. I think we'll bury her in the communal garden which isn't really mine to dig up but? The areas of dirt under the plants and things isn't cutting up any grass so.
Gonna bleach out the cage and throw out her toys will be phoning the vet and the pet shop in the morning. Maybe get a new ham in a little while...
Her name was princess anakin which is ridiculous but also what happens when you ask a bunch of nerdy computing science students to help you name your hamster. The vet receptionist had to call out her name and it was ridiculous.
She didn't seem too much in pain. She passed curled up in her sleep. I hope she is happier now wish I had got to know her

I am so sorry - what a horrible thing to happen. It is likely she had it when you got her. I think the burial you suggested sounds nice. Lots of people on here have little burials for their hamsters. You could mark the grave with something or plant some flowers on it.

It's a bit soon to think about another one, I know, but when you do, do come on here and we can help you get everything prepared for next time and answer in questions on set up and safe bedding and so on, and what to look for when choosing your next hammy. But it does sound like it was just bad luck. Where did you get her from and how long did you have her for?

Oh I didn't mean for it to sound like I'm replacing her straight away my flatmate was just very worried that if we got another it would catch it from our cage. Cleaning it with 1/10 bleach is what I've found from the internet so we'll do that and put it away for a while... It was pretty bad, she passed so quickly from it. She was so dehydrated so quickly

We will get up tomorrow to bury her

I got her from a local pet shop on Sunday.. The woman in the pet shop seemed quite knowledgeable- I was ran through the symptoms of wet tail and given the name of the vet which I used to tonight.. But they sexed her incorrectly, and if she WAS 12 weeks then she was probably a bit small. Idk I'm not an expert on weights, and maybe she'd lost a lot in the last few hours of life, but she was so small and light...

I think this was just the worst luck in the world. I think she was a little underweight and stressed after the move to our house and just didn't stand a chance with it

I am so sorry for your loss. I recently lost my baby boy to wet tail and I really feel your pain!! Perhaps they are playing together on the bridge!

I'm so sorry spacebyte, this is an awful thing to have happen, such a shock & very sad to lose a ham so soon & so suddenly, you may have only had her a short time but they do very quickly find their way into our hearts.

It does sound like she had it when you got her. I wouldn't go to the same pet store again. Sorry I worded it badly above! I wasn't suggesting you were thinking too soon I was saying I was mentioning it a bit soon x
