Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Bless you. It is so hard when this kind of thing happens. I do hope that your lovely Smokey continues to live a contented pain free life for as long as possible. I have always had a soft spot for her x

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Sorry for the worrisome news! Sounds like you have a good & trustworthy vet. Hope Smokey will continue to have much more time left to live a great life with you.

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Thinking of you and Smokey, it's never easy getting worrisome news. Make the most of whatever time you have left by spoiling her more, hamsters can surprise us in so many ways when they're not well.

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Thank you so much everyone for all your kind words, it does help being able to talk about it here!
Smokey came out to play as usual last night - I wasn't sure if she would get up early enough, after her busy day, and she was very late getting up for her tea (she has her fresh foods in the early evening) but she came out for half an hour's play, and then toddled off to bed. She was busy during the night, and I have seen her this morning, when she came out for breakfast - she usually has porridge and a small bit of veg, but she has gone off the porridge since the weather started warming up - I keep trying her on it but she's not interested so I think I'll just give her veg for breakfast! I made scrambled egg for myself, so I've popped a bit of that in.
I do hope she'll go on for a while yet, she is still so full of life and she has got a lot of projects she is working on!

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Glad to hear her trip to the vets didn't seem to upset her too much & she's still being pretty much her usual self, she still sounds a busy happy girl!
She certainly getting the best care! If she's gone off porridge now have you thought about trying her with some baby food for a bit of a change?

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
I think a bit of baby food is a nice idea cypher I will try and pop out during my lunch break tomorrow and see what they have in Asda! My sister has some baby food in for her rabbit who has just had a dental but they are all fruit and veg purees - Smokey tried a bit of carrot, apple and parsnip yesterday but they don't have much 'body' to them - she ate a small blob but I don't think she was crazy over it!

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
I found the ones with chicken in go down well also things like cauliflower or broccoli in cheese sauce, Hipp organic do some good ones, if you look at the ones for babies under 4 months they are less likely to have onion or anything else you don't want in them.
They do all have a fairly high water content though, I know what you mean, not as substantial as a nice bit of porridge or scrambled egg! Worth a try though.
I freeze them in ice cube trays then just take out once piece at a time, they defrost really quick, as the jars only keep for something 24-48hr once opened.

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try and get her a variety and see what she likes - and yes I will definitely freeze some!

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
I've just bought some for Charlie! Check out the age 4 months ones as most of those don't have any onion, garlic, leek or tomato, or spices etc. I've got the Hipp "Sweet squash and chicken", and the cow and gate "baby cauliflower cheese" - both 4 month ones. And a baby rice one as well, but that has sugar in. I found the choice in savoury ones was quite limited as even some of the 4 month ones have tomato or onion in.

Re: I think Smokey has a tumour :(
Oh I bet she would like the sweet squash and chicken, because she likes pumpkin! I hope I can find that one.
She does seem to be eating most of her other food, but it's just a bit of extra spoiling isn't it?
Has Charlie tried any of his yet?
