Default Poorly Hammie :(

Hi guys, first time poster here

So, for about a week now, my Hammie has been ill. I don't know what it is exactly. She has been sleeping a lot and has a wet rear, which looks like it may be feces, though the poops in her cage don't look any different. She also walks a little wobbly, her back legs seem weak and I've had to put her in her smaller cage as she has trouble getting up the tubes. I've taken her to the vets a few days ago and I've been given some Baytril to give her (0.38ml every 24 hours). The vet said that she could feel a mass in her abdomen but didn't say what the mass was. If Hammie doesn't put any weight on by the end of the week, they said it was best to put her to sleep.

Has anyone else been through the same? She's my first hamster so any and all help is appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear that. How old is she?
The vet is probably right about the outcome though I'm sorry to say because an internal tumour or possibly a womb infection and your little one having gone downhill so much is not a good prognosis.
I would think very carefully and also consider her quality of life bearing in mind that the tumour will not be removable at this stage if it is this and maybe ask her? Sometimes they give you that look. It may be that she needs to be given rest and a gentle path is the greatest gift you can give her.
I do hope you can make the right choice and get her seen again and a proper answer.

She's about a year and 4 months old now.
We're taking her back to the vet at the end of this week. She has been a little more lively today but she is still wobbly, and tends to fall over sometimes.
Could this mean it's a tumour or a womb infection?

Really sorry to hear about your ham.
It could be a womb infection & if so the meds may be making her feel a little brighter but it won't actually cure it, to survive pyo they do nomally need to be spayed & she may already be too ill to undergo surgery now.
There's no way for us to know unfortunately whether it is that or something else as souffle suggested.
It might be worth going back to the vet sooner & seeing if they could give you a clearer diagnosis.

Hey I'm sorry to hear about your little girl. It's an awful experience. These were symptoms my female had a fortnight before she passed away. She had a mass internally but it causes severe bleeding eventually. I persisted with the vets and hoped she'd get better, but I made the wrong choice and she passed away without giving me a chance to say goodbye and how much I loved her. It's a huge regret of mine and it still haunts me. I consider my self relatively experienced now and I won't make the same mistake again. Im just saying it how it is and I hope I haven't scared you. I think the end is near for your little girl so cherish her while she's still responsive and then consider what you should do next for the best. God bless your little girl.

I hope your OK.
