Default Madison's old age ailments

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well.

For those of you that don't know, my little Madam Madison, is a venerable old lady at 28 months old. We've had our fair share of scares of late which have mainly centered around her weight. Thankfully she seems to have finally plateaued and this is no longer a big concern.

Unfortunately, because of her age, she is finding moving around more challenging than she used to. Her wobble is more pronounced and she appears to tilt to one side as she's walking around. Conversely when she runs her gait appears much better.

I've adapted her cage to make sure she won't have a fall but I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to help her? I imagine she is suffering from some kind of arthiritus? Are there any supplements I could give her?

Other than that she's in very good health and is as happy (if not happier) in herself than I've seen her in months. She's such a snugglebun nowadays I just want to make sure she's as comfortable as possible.

Thanks in advance,
H x

Aww bless her, I'm so glad to hear she's still comfy & happy at such a great age.
I doubt there is much more you can do, giving something like omega oils can help with their joints but she may be a bit old for it to have much of an effect now, if you think she's in pain a vet may be able to give you something to help but it sounds as though she's enjoying life so try not to worry too much.

Sounds like you are doing everything right, adapting her set up to make life easier for little Madison....what a fantastic age!

Sounds like a happy ham, and glad her weight has settled down, must be a relief.
Enjoy every moment with your special lady!

Skittle is the same age as Madison and he too has arthritis and is on daily metacam for pain relief, prescribed by the vet. He wobbles a lot when walking but like Madison when he puts a spurt on, the wobble seems to disappear! He has also lost weight, 23g in fact as I weighed him last night as he looked and felt a bit bony. Going to get him some jar baby food today as advice on here suggests that he may have gone off his muesli & pellets as he's also got a UTI and is on antibiotics for that, which is possibly causing his weight loss - although still taking his food, he may not be eating it. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are good too apparently and Skittle loves those so maybe try Madison on those too? Not too many a day though, they're addictive!

Skittle's losing a bit of fur too, not much and certainly not going bald, but perhaps something not to panic over if you see that on Madison. I've noticed little sticky-out bits of fur on Skittle and when I've gently teased it because it's got like dead skin on the end, it's come out. He doesn't notice, so it doesn't hurt. He can't wash properly anymore due to not being able to bend because he's so stiff and it saddens me to see him try to scratch, but he can't reach, must drive him nuts so we try and rub his itchy bit for him but of course we're not always there . Poor thing.

But we do our best for our little hammies don't we?

I love hearing about Madison and such a great age too!
Adapting her cage is great and you're doing a super job of ensuring your little princess is happy and comfy.
