Exclamation could it be allergies or a cold??

I got my male syrian on the 9th of May this year, so we're on our fourth day together. I've noticed he's seemingly sneezing a little. It sounds a bit like windscreen wipers on a car, short squeaks. like my own sneezes it's sometimes in bouts of 3. he doesn't sneeze so much that i'm alarmed but he is essentially my son and i love him as dearly. i've looked online and it looks as thought it could also possibly be hiccups and i think i heard him snore tonight as well?

The cage currently has Animal Dreams Lavender scented wood shavings which i've read probably aren't the best option so I'll be changing it tomorrow. I've checked and his eyes aren't watery or clouded and his nose is fine.

I've been worried today since it hit 2am and he wasn't on his wheel making a racket. I moved the cage and he was up and essentially back to himself.

he's eating and drinking fine, still buzzing around and climbing about. it's my first time having a syrian as my previous pets were dwarfs and robos and they didnt have any issue with the wood shavings.

sounds like an allergy to any of you? if the sneezing keeps up after the bedding change we'll be down at the vet asap.

Take the lavender scented stuff out right away I would advise. Hamsters have such very sensitive noses that the smell will be overpowering for him. Best not to use any sort of scented products including air freshener and oils / insense etc when you have small animal pets.
You are best using plain shavings and ripped white loo roll as a bed or maybe even carefresh? I think it is the scented shavings causing the problems

yeah i went out today and bought some carefresh. he's got his ripped up toilet paper back in his sleeping space. he's squeaking a bit now but i think that may be him giving the new area a check
