Default Meeko's Vet Trip

Hello all,

So Meeko has been to the vets and is still with us . She was a star and let the vet pick her up and do a check up after some squeaks from her but this is what happened:

Meeko's lump on her left leg is a tuma that is connected to her liver or spleen. If this grows it will cut of a major blood artery and cause a large internal bleeding. I asked about giving her medicine they said there was some medicine that could be used for example steroids but it would cause more negatives than positives to her health.

They said that she has a few weeks to live and for me to come back in around two or three weeks if Meeko has slowed down as of the tuma.

Meeko's increase in appetite was so she could get enough carbohydrates in her in order to live. They said that if she has declined from what she does now (which is: Eat, drink, clean, burrow, sleep, walk, forages around her food bowl and run on wheel) then I need to bring her in and make a decision into whether or not to put her down. I am only going to put her down if she is in pain and at the moment she is showing no signs of pain.

Pain killers aren't needed now as she is not in pain but may cause complications for the spleen or liver (that is the same for other medicines).

I am to keep a very close eye on her over the next few weeks and I am going to film her at night and if I see anything different then I am to take her back to the vets to make the decision.

Meeko has the strength of the universe to the power of infinity as she is holding up with the tuma and not letting it get to her. Meeko you are truly an inspiration to us all.

Thank you all for your help and lovely comments, you are all the best,

Gimley and Meeko

I'm so sorry that there's nothing they can do and that she doesn't have long left I'm sure you'll give her extra love and treats for being a good little lady. I hope it doesn't come too soon, and that she lives the remainder of her life pain free. x

I am really hoping that she doesn't decline rapidly. Meeko is truly an inspiration fighting through this tuma.
Even though I haven't got much time with her it will be a time of joy and happiness as I will still have Meeko by my side.

I'm so sorry to hear about this news about Meeko and that nothing can be done to help. I would try to make her a happy and comfortable as possible as this may encourage her to continue with her strength a keep fighting through as she will determine when it's time. But I'm so sad and feel so sorry for you!

I hope she doesn't decline rapidly too, as soon as she does then please make the right decision for her sake. Spoil her rotten from now. Let her eat what she wants within reason

So sorry to hear, but as you say, she's a fighter and still has life to live I agree though - if you think she is starting to suffer in any way, it would be kinder to haver her pts.

Sorry to hear about her prognosis, I also have a hammie with a tumor on her leg, wouldn't help to guess if my hammie has similar problem or not? Still it's nerve wrecking

Treat everyday like it's meeko's last, cherish every moment. I'm sorry the vet can't do anything but, you're giving her plenty love and care. Sending both of you big hugs xxx
