I guess you've removed the sand, if it is that he may be ok but if it doesn't improve very soon you may be best going to your vet with him.
Hope he's going to be ok.

I'd call the vet and ask them what you should do? Did you have the dust bath in his cage all the time?

The reason I ask is because I let my robo roll around in the dust about 4-5 rolls about 1x per week,
just to clean her fur. I've never had a problem with it. But I soon want to get sand so she can have it in
her cage with her all the time. Actually 2 robos now, I'd be a little more nervous with the new robo cause I
don't know how she'd be with the dust, I probably won't try, I'll just get them both the sand soon.

Sorry you were mislead! Hope you hammie is ok?

First things first. Get the cage into the open air where he can breath better. If he`s breathing slowly or looks to be struggling, he needs assistance. He could have gotten some dust into his airways or lungs.

Chinchilla SAND is the safest, but I never use it now as my last two Roborovski`s developed dermatitis and very dry/flakey skin as the sand is too drying. Chinchillas require dust/sand as they have very dense fur. Hamsters do fine rolling and digging around in their shavings.

Hope your wee guy is okay, but if he`s still not right later on, maybe get to a vet and let them know what happened and they may be able to help his breathing or check his chest for any issues with his lungs. x
