Question Cod liver oil

Hi, our Skittle has mites again. Had them about 12 months ago and one treatment of Spot On got rid, thank goodness. He has had Spot On again, on Thursday. His skin is a bit dry though and as he also has arthritis and isn't very flexible anymore so can't wash himself properly (his fur is clean, he just can't reach everywhere to encourage oil cells to work) I was wondering if I could puncture a cod liver oil capsule I have and blob it on his food? And if so, how much - one drop a day, the entire capsule once a week? I put an entire capsule on my budgie's seed once a week, but didn't know if I could with Skittle. He's a Syrian, just over 2 years old. Thanks!

I'm not sure about giving cod liver oil to hams, I use evening primrose, just a drop, which can really help with their skin & omega oil for general condition, skin, joints etc if they need it.

Sorry, another question. If I get the evening primrose oil, could I rub just a drop onto his scent gland as it has a very dry scab on it, possibly caused by the mites and the fact that as he has arthritis he can't get to his glands any longer to clean them? It must be driving him nuts that he can't scratch them. The other gland is fine, nice and dry and smooth and soft, but the other is horrible to the touch. I'm toying with the idea of taking him back to the vet anyway come this Friday as it'll have been a week anyway and his skin still looks quite dry and I noticed a couple of flakes over his left eye last night, but wondered if I could help him out and make him a bit more comfortable meanwhile and possibly save a trip to the vet as it really stresses him out and as he's an old boy I didn't want to put him under any undue stress if I could help it. Thanks.

(My husband is going to get some evening primrose today, haven't been able to get any until now, sadly)

I got evening primrose capsules from the health shop. Just pierce them and drip onto the food. Nice and easy.

Thanks flowerfairy, but could I rub a drop of oil onto his scent gland do you think as well as it's so rough and scabby?

I would. It must be ok for them if they can eat it.
