Hi everyone.

Hopefully someone can give me some more advice please.
Two days after Charlie finished his first 7 day course of baytril his diarrhoea returned. Went back to the vet and he was given another course of baytril. i just gave him his last dose today but his poo is still soft and really smelly.

charlie seems well in himself though he is 90g now and continuing to gain weight steadily. i have to spot clean his cage every day due to the poo and smell. Full clean once a week.

i am only feeding him his musili and occasionally porridge.

Any ideas on this illness anyone?? Thanks.

I have no idea to be honest. One of the experienced members will definitely have suggestions. Porridge worked for my ham when she had diarrhea and to help her regain weight. To be honest she's had porridge a few times every week since as she loves it.

Have you given probiotics yet? (sorry if I already mentioned this) that would be my first approach with something like this, you could also try giving some dry oat flakes which might help a little.
If he's gaining weight that's a good sign so hopefully he'll get over this soon.
Did the vet say what to do if the second lot of meds didn't fix it?

Hi Cyper.

i'll try some probiotic today, thanks. the vet just told me to take him back if he got worse but he's not worse, just the same. in fact He's gained more weight since last vet trip so don't know what to do really.? His bottom area is a little dirty but nothing bad.

Fingers crossed the probiotics will help, I think they can get into a bit of a cycle sometimes if the bacteria in their gut is off balance to begin with they need the antibiotics in the short term but in the long term they're just killing off the good bacteria along with the bad so probiotics can make a big difference, don't expect it to work overnight though, may take a while.
